A new teaser trailer has been released for the film Falling, written and directed by Viggo Mortensen, who also stars in the film. The movie tells a complicated story of an elderly father, played by Lance Henriksen, whose memory begins to fail him, who calls upon his son (Mortensen) to help him. The father needs help to get by in his day to day life, so he moves from his rural farm to his son’s home in Los Angeles where he lives with his partner and family.

The film seems to span a lifetime in flashbacks, remembering the complicated relationship stemming from the son being gay and his father never fully accepting that about him. The two are joined in the cast by Laura Linney, Terry Chen, Sverrir Gudnason, Hannah Gross, and David Cronenberg.

This looks like it’s going to be a difficult story to see unfold, and will hit at the heart of many hurt familial relationships. Hopefully as time progresses, we will get further and further from this type of story being typical of those in the LGBTQ community, but for now, it’s many people’s story to tell.

Check out the beautifully shot teaser trailer below, as well as the poster for the film, and watch Falling when it’s released in select US theaters and on VOD starting February 5th, 2021.
