New Teaser Trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Unique Haunted House Horror Film PRESENCE
NEON has released the a new teaser trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s haunted house horror movie Presence, and this film tells a unique ghost story.
I saw this movie at Sundance, and the story centers around a family that moves into a seemingly peaceful suburban house, only to be gripped by the unnerving certainty that they are not alone.
The movie is filmed entirely from the perspective of an unseen otherworldly presence that lives in the house. We see only what the ghost sees, and it sees something sinister coming for this already dysfunctional family.
Soderbergh is the film’s cinematographer, so technically, he is the one playing the ghost in the story. Actor Chris Sullivan said: “You get into this film and then you realize that it’s Steven running up and down the stairs in martial arts slippers, trying not to make any noise. It’s an incredible dance and feat of camera operation and direction all at once.”
I said in my review of the film, “The film has an eerie atmosphere and Soderbergh's masterful use of a single location creates a sense of claustrophobic dread. The haunting story unfolds with a sense of relentless tension, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.”
The movie wasn’t perfect as it had an out of place subplot, but I still thought is was a solid movie and worth a watch for horror enthusiasts and Soderbergh fans alike.
Presence will be released in theaters in January 2025. The movie also stars Lucy Liu, Callina Liang, Eddy Mady, West Mulholland, and Julia Fox.
