New THE SANDMAN Photo Features Dream and Lucienne and Neil Gaiman Describes it as "DOWNTON ABBEY with Magic"

I’ve got a new photo here for you to check out from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman Netflix series. The photo features Tom Sturridge as Dream and it also offers a first look at Lucienne, The Dreaming's librarian, who’s played by Vivienne Acheampong.

The image was shared by Empire, who also had a chance to speak to Gaiman about how the new series describes it as Downton Abbey with magic:

"You watch Episode 1 and think, 'Oh, I get this thing: it's like Downton Abbey, but with magic. Then you'll be wondering, 'What the hell is this?' by Episode 2, when you're meeting Gregory The Gargoyle in The Dreaming. Episode 5 is about as dark and traumatic as anything is ever gonna get, then you've got Episode 6, which is probably the most feel-good of all the episodes."

Sounds like it’ll be an enjoyable series that is going to take audiences on a wild ride, and I’m so ready for it! Gaiman continues, saying:

"If you didn't like an episode of Game Of Thrones, you probably won't like any other episode of Game Of Thrones. With Sandman, it's all about surprising you. It's all about reinventing itself. It's all about taking you on a journey you've not been on before."

Netflix describes the series as “a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven.” The story follows “the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he tries to fix all the cosmic and human mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”

The cast also includes Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) as The Corinthian, Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio) as the voice of Matthew the Raven, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place) as Death, Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Ethel Cripps, and David Thewlis (the Harry Potter films) as John Dee.

Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Gaiman and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation). Gaiman, Goyer, and Heinberg are also co-writers on the project.
