New Trailer and Release Date For The Controversial Human Hunting Human Film THE HUNT
Universal Pictures has shared a new trailer for their upcoming thriller, The Hunt, and they’ve also announced a new release date. The Hunt was originally supposed to be released in September of last year but after some mass shootings, the film was pulled from the release schedule and delayed.
There’s a bit of controversy surrounding the film as it is inspired by The Most Dangerous Game and it tells the story of twelve strangers who are kidnapped, put in a forest, and hunted down by liberal elites like wild game. The trailer is leaning into the controversy to help market the film. I guess they’re trying to replicate the kind of controversy that fueled the success of Joker, but that happened more naturally. I don’t think forcing the issue will have the same effect, but, we’ll see.
The film comes from writer Damon Lindelof (LOST, The Leftover, Watchmen) and director Craig Zobel (Z for Zachariah, The Leftovers), and it’s a movie that I’ve actually been looking forward to seeing. The Hunt was produced by Blumhouse Pictures and this is the synopsis that was released:
Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose … The Hunt.
In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of globalist elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.
The Hunt will now hit theaters on March 13th and it also stars Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley, Glenn Howerton, Amy Madigan, Macon Blair, Steve Coulter, Ethan Suplee, and Hilary Swank.
