New Trailer Drops for MORBIUS - "The Line Between Hero and Villain Will Be Broken"

Here it is! Sony Pictures has released a second trailer for its upcoming Marvel film Morbius, and it features a lot of cool new footage of Jared Leto in action as the living vampire. Out of all of the Marvel films that Sony is developing without Marvel, this is the one that I’m actually most excited about. I’m a big fan of this character, and so far, I actually like what I’m seeing from the movie. It looks like it’ll be a decent flick!

The trailer is set to a cover of The Doors classic song “People Are Strange” which was also tied to another previously made vampire film, 1987’s The Lost Boys. The trailer also confirms that the film is set in the same universe as Venom, and there’s another quick shot of Michael Keaton.

Jared Leto takes on the role of Morbius, a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius, "a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles.”

When previously talking about playing Morbous, Leto said, "Morbius is a Marvel character who has been an important part of the universe. He's brilliant. He's strong. He's got some unique powers. But his powers seem to be out of his control." Leto adds that he "loves the opportunity to do something transformational," and notes how it was a very intense, physical role as Morbius goes from a frail, sick human being to a monstrous powerful being. He ends the teaser trailer by alluding a connection to Spider-Man, stating how "there's a web of opportunity."

Leto is joined by Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Crown, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Terror) in the film along with Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, who was engaged to Morbius before he accidentally turned himself into a vampire. She ends up becoming a potential victim as Morbius learns to cope with his insatiable bloodlust. Matt Smith is also in the film and plays Loxias Crown.

The film was directed by Daniel Espinosa, and it will be released in theaters January 28th, 2022.
