New Trailer For DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special 2024 - Introduced By New Cast Member Nicola Coughlan
At Friday’s San Diego Comic-Con Doctor Who panel, we got a glimpse at this year’s Christmas special, introduced by newcomer to the cast Nicola Coughlan, who we know from Derry Girls and Bridgerton. Coughlan’s character is names Joy, and the episode is aptly titled “Joy to the World.”
In the trailer, Ncuti Gatwa's The Doctor pops up in a Manchester home in the '40s, at a Mount Everest Base Camp in the '50s, and on the Orient Express in the '60s, asking people whether they ordered a "ham and cheese toastie and a pumpkin latte?".
Then we hop to a modern scene with Nicola Coughlan's character Joy, who is seen arriving at the Sandringham Hotel in present-day London, who is immediately asked, "Single?" by the receptionist. "Does it show?!" she jokes, before she's ushered into a "rather pink" room.
Shortly after the concierge scurries off to get her some towels, The Doctor (and a Silurian) burst through a door, and present her with the same food and beverage as before.
It’s a fun and mysterious trailer, and it gets us pumped for this season’s special episode.
Also at the panel, showrunner Russell T. Davies confirmed that Andor star Varada Sethu's new companion is named Belinda Chandra, which has some fans speculating as to whether she'll be related to existing character Rani Chandra, from The Sarah Jane Adventures.
