New Trailer For JETHICA Puts A New Twist On The Horror Stalker Movie
Jethica is a new movie set to release in select theaters January 13, 2023 before coming to streaming platform Fandor February 14 followed by an exclusive window on Cinedigm’s horror streaming service Screambox. Recently acquired by Cinedigm after its premiere at SXSW earlier this year, the film has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been screening at festivals around the world.
Directed by Pete Ohs and starring Callie Hernandez, Ashely Denise Robinson, Andy Faulkner, and Will Madden, the story follows Jessica who lives in fear of a stalker named Kevin. When on a road trip in New Mexico she runs into an old friend named Elena who has been hiding out at her deceased grandmother’s ranch. When Kevin mysteriously appears again, Jessica reveals to Elena the impossibility of it by showing her Kevin is dead. The girls then enlist help from beyond the grave to help Kevin move on, but Kevin won’t be forced to leave so easily.
This horror satire sounds incredible. I love a good horror comedy, and based on the trailer this movie looks like it checks all the boxes for me. The premise is interesting, and combined with the dead pan humor looks like it could actually have something really poignant to say. Horror movies always have something interesting to say about the fears and anxieties of the time they were made, but often the messages can get lost in the sheer terror people feel while watching them. Horror comedies, though often crude and made purely for laughs, can transcend this barrier when done right and can reveal some uncomfortable truths about ourselves. Given its generally good reception so far, I would say that Jethica is definitely one worth checking out.
