As Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman) faces a rapidly changing Britain, her family continues to struggle against the needs of the monarchy and the wants of their fracturing personal lives.
As you’ll see in the trailer, things get quite dramatic for everyone within the royal family as issues between them arise. The trailer is also set against a cover of Bob Dylan’s classic song The Times They Are A-Changing, which nods at issues between the royal family.
Season 3 of The Crown starts in 1964 as “a new guard sweeps into Downing Street and the Queen and her family struggle to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain. From cold-war paranoia, through to the jet-set and the space age – the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s – Elizabeth and the Royals must adapt to a new, more liberated, but also more turbulent world.”
It will also cover events such as the rise of the Beatles and England winning the soccer World Cup in 1966. Then there are characters such as Camilla Parker Bowles who will be introduced. The Crown Season 3 will cover “the Wilson era.” It spans the years 1964-77, “during the Swinging ’60s and through the ’70s, up to the cusp of Margaret Thatcher’s election as prime minister in 1979.
