New Trailer for Ridley Scott’s THE DOG STARS Teases a Harsh Post-Apocalyptic Journey
20th Century Studios has released a new trailer for The Dog Stars, the upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller from legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott, and it offers another look at a world struggling to survive after a devastating pandemic nearly wiped out humanity.
Based on Peter Heller's acclaimed novel, The Dog Stars follows a small group of survivors trying to find purpose in a broken world where danger lurks around every corner. The latest footage expands on the film's bleak setting while giving audiences a better look at the relationships that drive the story.
Set in Colorado after civilization has largely collapsed, the story centers on Hig, played by Jacob Elordi, a civilian pilot who spends his days flying an aging Cessna over the remains of the world. He shares an isolated existence in an airplane hangar with his loyal dog and a hardened former Marine played by Josh Brolin.
Life may be grim, but everything changes when Hig picks up a mysterious radio transmission while flying. The signal sparks a mission to uncover where it came from, opening the possibility that there may be something more waiting beyond the boundaries of their small survivalist enclave.
The trailer leans into the film's mix of suspense, survival, and mystery. There are hostile invaders, desperate survivors, and what appears to be a landscape where cannibalism has become part of the nightmare. Yet beneath all of that darkness is a search for connection and the possibility of a better future.
The official synopsis reads: “The end of the world was just the beginning.” Set in Colorado after the world's population has been ravaged by a pandemic, a man lives a lonesome existence in an airplane hangar with his dog and a door gunman he has befriended. When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio while he is flying his old Cessna, it sparks a hunt for the provenance of the sound.
Along with Elordi and Brolin, the film features an impressive cast that includes Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney.
The screenplay comes from Mark L. Smith, whose previous writing credits include The Revenant, Overlord, The Midnight Sky, and Twisters.
One of the biggest questions hanging over the film is whether the mysterious transmission will lead Hig and his companions toward something worth finding, or whether it will reveal that the world outside their fragile sanctuary is just as hopeless as the one they've left behind. Either way, the journey looks intense.
The Dog Stars flies into theaters nationwide on August 28, 2026.
