In the trailer, we see Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun, aka Player 456 (Lee) reenter the Squid Game after winning at the conclusion of Season 1.

This time he has more of the upper hand as he has the knowledge of what the game is really about, and he’s looking to save the lives of other players while trying to convince them to opt out and end the game once and for all.

Hwang Dong-hyuk returned to write, direct, and executive produce Season 2. When previously talking about what he envisioned for Season 2, he said, "I have a very high-level picture in my mind."

In Season 1, "a mysterious invitation to join the game is sent to people at risk who are in dire need of money. 456 participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games in order to win 45.6 billion won.

“Every game is a Korean traditional children's game, such as Red Light and Green Light, but the consequence of losing is death. Who will be the winner, and what is the purpose behind this game?"

Returning to the series are Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, as well as franchise newcomers Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon, and Yang Dong-Geun.

The new additions to the cast include Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home), Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim (Move to Heaven), Lee David (The Fortress and Svaha: The Sixth Finger), Lee Jin-uk (Miss Granny and Sweet Home), Choi Seung-hyun (Tazza: The Hidden Card and Commitment), Roh Jae-won (Missing Yoon and Ditto), and Won Ji-an (D.P.).

A third season has already been confirmed, and it will be the final installment. Dong-hyuk said: "I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.

“The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man's] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year."
