The Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints Of Newark, has a new trailer for you to watch! This trailer puts a focus on Dickie Moltisanti, who is basically the guy who made Tony Soprano. This movie looks great! I loved the original series and I’m excited to see this origin story.

Here’s the synopsis for the movie, which was directed by Alan Taylor from a script by creator David Chase:

Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his impressionable nephew will help make the teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano.

The movie is set in the era of the Newark riots in the ‘60s. "That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal."

When previously talking about the movie Chase said, “It is going to depict when it was good. The mafia was very polished at that time, how they dressed and what they did. Those traditions were followed more loosely in the series. These weren’t guys who wore tracksuits, back then.”

Young Tony Soprano is played by James Gandolfini’s son Michael Gandolfini, and he’s joined by Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro, with Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga.

The Many Saints OF Newark will be available on October 1st in theaters and on HBO Max.
