New Trailer for The Nunsploitation Comedy THE LITTLE HOURS with Aubrey Plaza and Alison Brie
A new trailer has been released for the upcoming nunsploitation comedy The Little Hours. I had a chance to watch this movie at Sundance and it was definitely one of the stranger and more awkward films that I saw there. It wasn't really my thing, but I think there's an audience out there who will enjoy it and find it funny.
The story was is set in medieval times and follows three nuns named Alessandra (Alison Brie), Fernanda (Aubrey Plaza), and Ginevra (Kate Micucci), who lead a simple yet complicated life in their convent. "Their days are spent chafing at monastic routine, spying on one another, and berating the estate’s day laborer. After a particularly vicious insult session drives the peasant away, Father Tommasso (John C. Reilly) brings on new hired hand Massetto (Dave Franco), a virile young servant forced into hiding by his angry lord. Introduced to the sisters as a deaf-mute to discourage temptation, Massetto struggles to maintain his cover as the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry."
The movie has an incredible cast that also includes Nick Offerman, Adam Pally, Molly Shannon, and Fred Armisen. With a cast like that, you can bet there are going to be a lot of laughs, and there are. I just thought the story and tone of the film were all over the place and the whole "Nuns Gone Wild" thing got old pretty fast.
The film was written and directed by Jeff Baena, who previously wrote and directed Life After Beth and Joshy. It's based on The Decameron, it will be released this Summer on June 30th. You can read my review for the film here.
