New VAESEN SEASONS OF MYSTERY For The NORDIC HORROR ROLEPLAYING Has A New Mystery For Every Season

The Nordic countries all have a majestic beauty to them as well as dangers that come with the wilderness. The Vaesen Nordic Horror Roleplaying Game dives into those dangers as players work to solve mysteries of a more supernatural nature.

Based on the work of Swedish illustrator and author Johan Egerkrans, the game takes place in a dark Gothic setting steeped in Nordic folklore and old myths of Scandinavia.  A new book has arrived on the scene for the ENNIE winning tabletop game, Vaesen Seasons of Mystery. It features four different mysteries, each one occurring during one season of the year. Here’s the breakdown of each scenario:

  • A Dance of Death: Travel to the green vales of Dalarna in the idyllic springtime to investigate strange events in a remote village and solve a deadly mystery. Written by Gabrielle de Bourg.

  • Fireheart: Religious fervor runs high in rural Småland as the hottest summer in living memory triggers massive forest fires, crop failure, widespread poverty, and a mass exodus to America. Will you uncover what's behind it all – and live to tell the tale? Written by Tomas Härenstam.

  • The Devil on the Moor: Journey west to the windswept autumnal moors of Grimsted Lyng and investigate a tale of terror where modernity is pitted against the old ways. Written by Andreas Marklund.

  • A Winter’s Tale: Cross the Baltic Sea and brave the snow-covered forests of Ingria, where an unknown being stalks the night beneath glittering stars. Written by Kiku Pukk Härenstam.

All these scenarios sound super fun to play. During the holiday breaks would be a perfect time to pull this out and try out A Winter’s Tale. The game uses an adapted Year Zero Engine, so if you are familiar with games like Mutant Year Zero you have a grasp of the basics of game play. The premise sounds a lot like Call of Cthulhu but instead of being Lovecraft based it has more real world folklore elements which is really appealing to me. I also love the art for this game, I’ll include some of it below for you to enjoy. If you are wanting a more mythic type of mystery tabletop game then I think this one would definitely be worth trying out.
