New York Comic Con Canceled With a Move to an Online Convention

In sad news that we all saw coming, New York Comic Con has canceled their in-person convention for 2020. This was the convention that everyone held out hope for, as it was scheduled so late in the year. We had our fingers crossed that things would be back to normal by now, but they are as uncertain as ever, and no one is rushing to go hang out with 250,000 strangers.

But as San Diego Comic-Con adapted to the changes last month, so will NYCC this October. Here’s what the convention’s partner ReedPop had to say in a statement about the new setup:

While we’d much rather be giving you an update today on badges going on sale, it likely comes as no surprise that New York Comic Con 2020’s physical event at the Javits Center will not be able to run as intended. We very sincerely appreciate your patience as we worked with the Javits and local officials to figure out what, if anything, could go on as planned this October.

NYCC doesn’t stop just because we can’t do what we’ve done in the past. Instead, we look to the future: We may not be meeting in the queue hall each morning, but we’re excited to join forces with our sister event, MCM Comic Con in London, to bring you New York Comic Con's Metaverse, our new online portal dedicated to delivering pop culture experiences, right into your homes NYCC weekend, October 8-11. We are partnering with YouTube to bring to life four days of incredible content from the biggest studios, publishers and creators in the business. This is your chance to interact with your favorite creators and celebrity guests, and most importantly, the opportunity to engage with other members of this vibrant community of ours. Metaverse October guest announcements, exhibitor profiles, and other information will be available at findthemetaverse.com.

So keep an eye out on the site’s page linked above, as I’m sure we will start hearing more about who and what we will see at the convention in the coming month. And hopefully, we will be able to get back to attending our favorite conventions next year!
