Niantic Adapts POKEMON GO for Improved Performance at Home During Coronavirus

The COVID-19 coronavirus has everyone trying to be safe and not get together in big crowds. This often means not getting out of the house too often. This has led to a lot of things in the entertainment world to be canceled, postponed, or adapted in some other fashion. The mobile game Pokémon GO is no different. The game usually tries to get people to be more active and go outside more often. However, in lieu of COVID-19, Niantic has adapted the game a little to help people stay safe.

According to an official statement, the company is “prioritizing updates to Pokémon GO features and experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings.” What this has translated to is that Pokémon habitats will be increased so players don’t have to go so far to get their monsters. In addition, Lure Modules will now last for 1 hour and are on sale for 99% off! Also, Egg Incubators will now be more efficient and hallow you to hatch eggs in half the amount of steps. Finally, Pokestops will be giving players more Gifts to send to their friends.

Outside of these changes, Niantic has decided to postpone the Abra Community Day Event and other real-world events. This will not affect the first season of the new competitive Battle League or the upcoming Genesect research event.
