Nicholas Hoult Looking to Join Robert Eggers' NOSFERATU Film
It looks like Nicholas Hoult is going to join director Robert Eggers’ next film project, which is a remake of the iconic 1922 vampire film Nosferatu. He’s currently in negotiations, and if he ends up closing the deal, he’ll join Bill Skarsgard, who is attached to play the lead vampire character, Count Orlok, with Lily-Rose Depp also in talks to star.
In this new reimagining, Nosferatu tells the gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him. Focus had no comment on the project.
Eggers has been working on making this film for years. It’s a passion project and he has a long history with the film. When he was in high school. he produced a remake of it for his senior-year project. He actually played Count Orlok in “a scene-for-scene re-creation of the silent film, complete with intertitles and sibling gargoyles.”
F.W. Murnau is the director of the original 1922, while German filmmaker Werner Herzog notably directed his own version of the classic tale back in 1979. I can’t wait to see what Eggers does for this movie! He’s a great filmmaker and I love the attention to detail that he brings to all of his films. I have a feeling this film is going to be great!
There’s no word on who Hoult will be playing in the film.
