Nick Fury Was The First Option For Peter Parker's Mentor In SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING
While Tony Stark ended up serving as the mentor for Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, Nick Fury was the original character set to guide Spider-Man as he donned the suit. Director Jon Watts shares more below:
"Interestingly, while Tony was the obvious choice, especially after the events of Civil War, Watts created images of Nick Fury as the mentor in the story in early 'mood reels' before getting the job. 'I don’t know what the situation would be,' he said. 'But that would be a person he’d want to get in trouble with.'"
The move would've been an awesome nod to the comics and animated television where that is the case, but ultimately the idea was nixed as it made more sense in the MCU for Stark to mentor over Nick Fury, who has been MIA since Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Do you think the filmmakers made the right call, or would you rather have seen Fury with Parker over Stark?
