Nickelodeon and Mattel Green Lights a Sequel To MONSTER HIGH: THE MOVIE
Monster High: The Movie ended up being a pretty big success for Nickelodeon and Mattel Television. The film was based on the Mattel toy franchise that centers around the teenage children of famous monsters and creatures.
Well, with everyone being so happy with the outcome of the live-action movie musical, they’ve officially given a sequel the green light and it will begin production in January in Vancouver, Canada, and will air on Nickelodeon and stream on Paramount+ in 2023.
My kids grew up collecting these Monster High dolls. They’re full-blown teenagers now, so I wasn’t sure if they’d even tune in to watch the first film. But they did, and they watched it multiple times. It seems to hit those nostalgic emotions for them.
Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action, stated: “We are ecstatic to tell the monstrous next chapter of this beloved franchise to our audience. Monster High’s message of embracing one’s unique self is as important as ever and we look forward to expanding the stories of these fan-favorite characters.”
Monster High: The Movie follows Clawdeen Wolf (Miia Harris) as she arrives at Monster High with a dark secret. With the help of her friends Draculaura (Nayah Damasen) and Frankie Stein (Ceci Balagot), she is able to embrace her true monster heart and save the school from total destruction. The film also stars Case Walker, Kyle Selig, Marci T. House, Scotch Ellis Loring, Steve Valentine, Jy Prishkulnik, Lina Lecompte, Justin Derickson, Lilah Fitzgerald and Nasiv Sall.
Todd Holland (Monster High, Firehouse Dog, Malcolm in the Middle) will return as director and executive producer. Fred Soulie, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Mattel Television; Phil Breman, Vice President of Live Action Development at Mattel; and Adam Bonnett (Descendants, Zombies, Masters of the Universe) will also return as executive producers. The sequel screenplay is being written by Matt and Billy Eddy (Teen Beach, Invisible Sister, Zapped), with a story by Holland, and the Eddys.
The Monster High animated series is also coming and it’s set to premiere on Friday, October 28th, at 7pm (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.
