Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård Will Play Father and Son in LORD OF WAR Sequel
The 2005 illegal weapons sales crime thriller Lord of War is getting a sequel titled Lords of War, and Nicolas Cage is set to return and reprise his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov. In this next chapter of the story, Orlov finds himself in competition with his son, who has found himself in the same business. His son will be played by Bill Skarsgård.
Andrew Niccol will also return to direct the sequel, the story of which finds Orlov (Cage), “the world’s most notorious gunrunner, as he discovers that he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), who is trying to top his dad. Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts. This triggers an intergenerational bitter rivalry, one that pits father and son against each other.”
Niccol said in a statement: “There is so much more to explore with these characters. Plato said it best — ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war.’ I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son — who turns out to not be legitimate in any way.”
Producer Vendôme’s Philippe Rousselet said: “The Lord of War world has no shortage of ammunition in the possibilities of stories we can tell, and we are very excited to tell yet another one that follows Yuri and Anton’s dangerous journey.”
The first Lord of War movie was great, but I never expected to see a sequel. It worked as a standalone movie, so this sequel news come as a surprise! I hope that it ends up being as good as the first movie!
