Nicolas Cage and Matthew Goode and More Join Star-Studded Cast for Simon West’s WWII Espionage Thriller FORTITUDE
Director Simon West, best known for Con Air, has kicked off production on his new World War II espionage adventure Fortitude, and the cast is stacked with some incredible talent.
Filming began September 8 in London, and the project already feels like one of the most exciting WWII thrillers in the works right now.
The ensemble includes Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game), Ed Skrein (Jurassic World: Rebirth), Jordi Mollà (Mobland), Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon), Art Malik (True Lies), Lukas Haas (Inception), Adrian Topol (Franz + Polina), Emilio Sakraya (Sixty Minutes), Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders), Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), and of course Nicolas Cage (Con Air).
The story is based on real events, following British Intelligence operatives who carried out elaborate deception campaigns to mislead Nazi leadership and ultimately shift the course of the war.
These operations were the brainchild of officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll “Tar” Robertson, who masterminded fake armies, phony equipment, and a web of double agents.
One of the most fascinating figures in the story is Yugoslavian playboy Dusko Popov, a double agent who famously served as inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond.
Joshua Levine (Dunkirk) was brought onboard as the film’s historical consultant. The screenplay was written by Simon Afram (Lear Rex), who is also producing alongside Georgette Turner (Wonder Woman), Reza Roohi (ATL Hustle), and Edward Kahl (Queen of Manhattan).
In a statement, Afram said: “We are excited to bring together such a remarkable ensemble. Their chemistry and depth, paired with West’s direction, elevate this story into something truly gripping and unforgettable.”
With an all-star lineup, a fascinating true story, and West behind the camera, Fortitude seems like it’s going to be a must-watch for history buffs and fans of espionage thrillers alike.
