Nicolas Cage Is Set to Play Dracula in Universal Picture's RENFIELD
Nicolas Cage is set to play Dracula in Universal Pictures’ upcoming monster movie Renfield. Of course, Cage is playing Dracula, why wouldn’t he play the Prince of Darkness!
Cage will star alongside Nicholas Hoult who will play Dracula’s unhinged henchman R.M. Renfield. In the original Dracula novel, Renfield was an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions but actually is a servant of Dracula.
There are still no details about the story, but it’s said to be an original that is believed to take place during the present day. Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The Lego Batman Movie 1 & 2) is directing the movie and the script is based on an original story outline from The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman. Ryan Ridley wrote the most recent version of the script.
I love that Cage is going to play Dracula in this movie, and I’m incredibly curious to see what his take on the character will be and how he brings Dracula to life.
Cage’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance co-star, Idris Elba, revealed that while making the film in Romania, Transylvania, Cage spent the night in Dracula’s castle to “channel his energy,” and he also told Elba it was “pretty spooky up there.”
I hope he’s still got the energy that he was channeling! If not, he could always go up and spend the night in Dracula’s castle again.
