Nicolas Cage Joins CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 7 as a New Operator in Season 4 Reloaded

The world of Call of Duty is about to get a little more unpredictable. As part of the upcoming Season 4 Reloaded update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage is officially entering the battlefield as a playable Operator, and it feels like one of the more entertaining crossover additions the franchise has introduced.

Crossovers have become a major part of modern gaming. Games like Fortnite have built entire seasons around bringing in characters and celebrities from every corner of pop culture.

Meanwhile, military shooter franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield have faced increasing criticism from players who feel some collaborations push too far into the absurd and pull attention away from the tone of the game.

With Nicolas Cage, however, Activision may have landed on a crossover that actually fits. Launching on June 25 as part of the Season 4 Reloaded update, the Nick Cage Event Pass arrives during the game's "Summer of Action" event. Players can earn a variety of rewards inspired by Cage and his legendary Hollywood career.

Those sticking to the free rewards track will still find some fun extras waiting for them. That includes the "Art of Respect" emblem, the "Wide Eyed" spray that references moments from Cage's filmography, exclusive loading screens, melee weapons, and a weapon charm inspired by one of the actor's most famous real-life quirks, his well-documented fascination with collecting dinosaur bones during the peak of his fame.

Players progressing through the free rewards path will also unlock the AN-94, a fan-favorite assault rifle that many players have been hoping would return.

Of course, anyone looking to actually jump into matches as Nick Cage will need to pick up the Premium Event Pass. The operator is unlocked immediately upon purchase, with additional rewards becoming available as players advance through the event.

Those rewards include exclusive operator skins, finishing moves, weapon blueprints, and extra cosmetic content built around Cage's in-game persona.

What makes this crossover stand out is how it differs from some of the franchise's more controversial collaborations. Call of Duty has featured celebrity talent for years, though many of those appearances were integrated directly into campaigns or Zombies modes rather than appearing as promotional tie-ins.

Actors including Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Ice Cube, Kevin Spacey, Gary Oldman, Katee Sackhoff, Kit Harington, and Sam Worthington have all played major characters throughout the franchise's stories.

Meanwhile, Zombies fans have seen appearances from Helena Bonham Carter, Jeff Goldblum, David Hasselhoff, Heather Graham, David Tennant, Ray Liotta, Michael Madsen, John Malkovich, Bill Paxton, Rose McGowan, and Jon Bernthal over the years.

More recently, though, players have pushed back against crossover content that feels disconnected from the military setting. Collaborations like the Beavis and Butt-Head bundle sparked criticism from fans who felt the franchise was drifting too far from its roots.

Developers have since indicated that future titles, including Modern Warfare, would take a more selective approach to crossover characters and celebrities.

That philosophy seems to be reflected in the way Cage has been incorporated into Black Ops 7. Rather than portraying one of his iconic movie characters, the game presents a heightened version of Nicolas Cage himself as a combat-ready Operator.

It's a concept that leans into his reputation as a larger-than-life action star while still fitting within the chaotic world of Call of Duty.

The approach is similar to the addition of Terry Crews, who joined the game in Season 3 and was generally received much more positively than some of the franchise's stranger crossover experiments.

Cage's long history of action films, combined with his willingness to embrace wild and unconventional storytelling choices, makes him a surprisingly natural fit for the over-the-top firefights and explosive set pieces that define modern Call of Duty. Instead of feeling like a random marketing stunt, this collaboration feels tailored to the energy of the game.

Whether players love it or hate it, seeing Nicolas Cage charging into battle with an assault rifle wasn't on many people's Call of Duty bingo cards for 2026.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 4 Reloaded launches on June 25.
