Nicolas Cage Says He Will Never Retire and That Makes Me Happy
For those of you wondering when Nicolas Cage will finally retire from making movies, the answer is never. Nicolas Cage will never retire from making movies, and this is cause for celebration!
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor was talking about the challenges of finding new and interesting projects to be a part of as he gets older and shared that he is planning on taking a little break after his next two films. But, when asked about possible retirement, he said:
"No, no, no. No, no. That can't happen. To do what I do in cinema has been like a guardian angel for me, and I need it. I'm healthier when I'm working, I need a positive place to express my life experience, and filmmaking has given me that. So I'm never going to retire. Where are we now, 117 movies?
"[Laughs] What's funny is, my argument with people who go, 'You work too much,' was 'I like working, and it's healthy, I'm happy when I'm working, and by the way, guys like Cagney and Bogart, they were doing hundreds of movies.' And then I went, 'I'd better check that,' and I went, 'Oops.' [Laughs] Jerry Lewis was one of my friends, and he and I would go and have dinner together, and he would say, 'How many movies you got?' I go, 'I got about 100, how many you got?' 'I got 40. So you got twice as much as me?' 'Well, I didn't know that, Jerry.'"
Cage is kicking ass in the film industry right now and is doing some of his best work. One of my favorite films that he’s made is the movie Pig, which recently came out. That is a freakin’ great film, Cage gives his best performance in it, and he better be win all the Best Actor awards!
I’ve been enjoying all of the film that cage has been making in recent years. He is a part of some pretty wild and spectacular films that have been insanely entertaining to watch, and I hope he continues to take on these off-the-wall crazy projects.
