Nicolas Cage Says His First Memories Are From When He Was "In Utero" Before He Was Born
Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage (Raising Arizona, Renfield) is a pretty strange dude. He’s known for his far out roles and acting methods, and has been known to say some interesting things in interviews, but it all kind of adds to the mystique of him.
His latest strange claim came about in a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where Cage participated in the show's "Colbert Questionert" game. One of the questions asked was about the actor’s earliest memory, and he responded true to form:
"Let me think. Listen, I know this sounds really far out and I don't know if it's real or not, but sometimes I think I can go all the way back to in-utero and feel like I could see faces in the dark or something. I know that sounds powerfully abstract, but that somehow seems like maybe it happened."
Cage knew this was an unusual concept, and may not even be completely accurate, so he went on to explain:
"Now that I am no longer in utero, I would have to imagine it was perhaps vocal vibrations resonating through to me at that stage. That's going way back. I don't know. That comes to mind... I don't even know if I remember being in utero, but that thought has crossed my mind."
I mean, who knows, it’s possible that there may be people who could have flashes of memory that far back. It’s not likely, and studies have been done to disprove it, but many people have claimed it, and who are we to dispute it? Either way, it’s a pretty interesting thought.
