Nicolas Cage Says No to STAR WARS Revealing He's a STAR TREK Guy and Why
During a recent interview, Nicolas Cage was asked about joining the possibility of Star Wars Universe because his The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent co-star Pedro Pascal said he wanted to recruit him into that franchise. Cage responded with a surprising answer.
Cage is not interested in joining the Star Wars franchise because he’s a big Star Trek guy! He said: "No is the answer. I'm not really down. I'm a Trekkie, man, I'm on the Enterprise. That's where I roll."
Cage went on to say: "I grew up watching Shatner, I thought Pine was terrific in the movies. I think the movies are outstanding." He then explained why he appreciates the Star Trek franchise:
"I like the political, the sociological -- to me, what science fiction is really all about and why it's such an important genre is that is really where you can really say whatever you want, however you feel, you put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time or in the future and you can – without people just jumping on you. You can really express your thoughts like Orwell in the science fiction format and Star Trek really embraced that. I thought they got into some serious stuff."
Cage then made it very clear that you will not see him in a Star Wars project, saying: "I'm not in the Star Wars family, I'm in the Star Trek family.”
I love that he’s so passionate about Star Trek! There are a lot of people out there like me that are huge fans of both franchises! It would be seriously hard for me to choose just one because I grew up with both of them in my life. I was definitely exposed to more Star Trek content over the years, though, because of all of the TV shows and movies that were being released over the course of growing up. But those original three Star Wars films always stuck with me and that is where my imagination went.
Now we’re back to that age-old question… Star Wars or Star Trek!? But, I’m gonna have to go with Star Wars because it was always more magical to me. What do you choose?
