Nicolas Winding Refn Says THE NEON DEMON Was Inspired by His Wife

When it comes to my favorite directors, Nicolas Winding Refn is at the top of my list. That's not to say his films are all my favorites (although I like a good deal of them), but rather his directing style is something I appreciate more than most other directors out there. No matter what he's directing you can always ensure there will be vibrant and meaningful colors, dark soundtracks, and lots of violence.

Which is why I found it weird that his most recent film, The Neon Demon, features models in LA. Weird as he is, it seemed like a departure for Refn and his usual work. Now, thanks to Bloody Disgusting, we know why it came to be...

I don’t know if it’s inspiration...the basis for the idea [of the film] came one morning when I woke up and was like ‘You know what? I wasn’t born beautiful, but my wife is and I wonder what that would be like.”

It's weird that such a simple thought in this man's mind spurred this, but I'm not complaining! I can't wait to see it!
