Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem to Play Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Aaron Sorkin's Film BEING THE RICARDOS
Academy Award winning actors Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies, Bombshell) and Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, Skyfall) are in talks to join director Aaron Sorkin’s next project, Being the Ricardos. The film will follow Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in their marriage and careers, which were made famous in their sitcom, I Love Lucy, in which they played the Ricardos.
Sorkin is also an Academy Award winner for writing The Social Network, as well as an Emmy winner for his series The West Wing. He will direct the film from a script he wrote that previously went by Lucy and Desi.
Deadline provides the following description:
The film is set during one production week of I Love Lucy — Monday table read through Friday audience filming— when Lucy and Desi face a crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage.
This sounds like an interesting take on the couple. The pair had a famously tumultuous love story, and it seems as though this will highlight every part of the good and bad that made them who they were. I love Kidman and think she could play any role, so I think it would be fun to see her take on such a comedy icon. Bardem seems a little too scary to play Desi, but I guess we will just have to wait and see what magic he can make. Does this sound like a good casting to you?
