Nightcrawler Will Be a Swashbuckler in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
I've been a huge fan of X-Men since I was a child. My brother used to collect comics that I would often steal and read. I especially loved the series X-Caliber. It introduced some fun and interesting characters and turned Nightcrawler into a total badass. He was funny, sincere, and wielded a sabre like some kind of demonic pirate.
Well, fans of this kind of Nightcrawler will be pleased to hear that the new Nightcrawler in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse will be a lot more like that. In a recent interview with JoBlo, actor Kodi Smit-McPhee said:
“I believe we kind of get to see the side of Nightcrawler that we love so much in the comics,” says Smit-McPhee. “The more vulnerable, swashbuckling, joyous, random, personality that we love, but also so grounded in his faith at a young age as well, as we went with the choice to still have the designs. So, it’s a mix of ideas, but uh, something that I believe is pretty faithful to what the fans enjoy and, um, something that I can kind of relate to as well, so…”
This is so exciting to hear. Personally, I loved Alan Cumming's portrayal of Nightcrawler in X-Men 2, but one thing I always thought that was missing was more of the swordplay and swashbuckling. We'll have to see the movie to see how much of that ends up in the final film.
