Nintendo Announces Plans for First Free NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS Update

Nintendo is releasing a free update for Nintendo Switch Sports on July 26th at 6 PM PT. The update will target Soccer and Volleyball along with some small refinements to online play. First, with Soccer, players can use the leg strap accessory (available with the physical version of the game, with Ring Fit Adventure, or separately) in 4v4 and 1v1 matches.

This will allow you to kick with your real leg for in-game actions like dashing if you also move your hands. They do say that in-game kicks will be more powerful if you use the leg strap. That seems awful to me. First, there are people who possibly can’t use the leg strap for one reason or another and so they’re automatically at a disadvantage. Second, there are people who just don’t want to use the leg strap. In Ring Fit Adventure, that leg strap can be a little finicky and require very precise placement which will be ruined when it inevitably slides down the leg a little.

If you’re a fan of Volleyball, you’ll be excited that you’ll now be able to use a Slide Attack and Rocket Serve. No other description was given other than “Make your spikes even more unpredictable or catch your opponents by surprise right from the start of the match!” I’m a little excited for this because I felt like the serves in Volleyball were a little weak and I wanted the ability to have a faster serve. Maybe this is it?

Finally, for online play, the Pro League is receiving an S Rank and an ∞ Rank. I’m pretty sure that’s an infinity symbol. In addition, they’re making it easier to play with friends by introducing Room IDs. Yay! Are you excited for any of these updates? I hope more updates come to help really shape the games that are out as I felt like many of them quickly became boring and monotonous. I’m more excited for the update later this year that will add Golf into the mix. Have you been playing Nintendo Switch Sports? What has been your go to? You can play Nintendo Switch Sports now on the Nintendo Switch.
