Nintendo Announces the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model)

Those crazy sons of guns did it! Nintendo revealed this morning a new Nintendo Switch called Nintendo Switch (OLED model). Yup. That’s the name they went with. This model of the Nintendo Switch is set to release on October 8, the same day as Metroid Dread, and will have an MSRP of $349.99. It ditches a lot of the gray from the original Switch with white for a look that feels more modern. So, what else does this new model offer?

The OLED Switch is physically similar to the base model and features a 7” OLED screen to provide more vivid colors and crisp contrast. It also features a wide adjustable stand similar to what you find on the Microsoft Surface tablets. This is a really big deal that I’m excited about. In addition, it has 64GB of internal storage which is double the base model for you to store more games on the system itself. The system also features “enhanced audio” for when you’re playing via tabletop or handheld modes. Finally, the dock has a feature fans have been clamoring for, a wired LAN port which will allow for better internet connections. Talking about the new OLED model, Doug Bowser said:

The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode. With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.

The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will be available with the new iconic white scheme or with the neon red and neon blue Joy-Con and a black dock. All previous Joy-Con and games for the Nintendo Switch will work with the new model although it doesn’t cleanly work with all Nintendo Labo products.

I think this is a great upgrade and with a fairly minimal price increase. Are you going to grab a Nintendo Switch (OLED model)?
