Nintendo Drops Surprise STAR FOX 64 Remake Announcement for Switch 2, Launching Next Month
Out of nowhere, Nintendo just pulled the trigger on something fans have been hoping to hear for years. A Star Fox 64 remake is officially on the way, and it’s arriving much sooner than anyone expected.
During a recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed the next entry in the long-running franchise, simply titled Star Fox. Instead of pushing the series forward with a brand-new sequel, the company is revisiting what many consider the high point of the franchise, Star Fox 64, and rebuilding it with modern hardware in mind.
The remake introduces redesigned character models across the entire Star Fox team, alongside new cutscenes that expand on the story.
Gameplay has been refined to feel smoother and more responsive, and there are even new modes being added into the mix. For players who have flown through Corneria more times than they can count, Nintendo is clearly aiming to give them a reason to jump back into the cockpit.
At the same time, the developers haven’t forgotten what made the original so memorable. One of the more interesting reveals is that the game will support the Nintendo 64 controller previously released for Switch and Switch 2.
That means longtime fans can experience the remake with a control setup that closely mirrors the original release, which is a smart move for anyone chasing that nostalgic feel.
The biggest surprise might be how close this all is. Star Fox is set to launch on June 25th, exclusively for Switch 2. That quick turnaround from announcement to release gives this reveal an extra jolt of excitement, especially for a series that has been largely dormant in recent years.
For a franchise that helped define Nintendo’s early 3D era, this feels like a meaningful and awesome return.
