Nintendo Is Updating THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINK'S AWAKENING for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo had their first Nintendo Direct of the year the other day for Nintendo Switch. I must admit, I was left feeling underwhelmed. We knew that there would be news about Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but everything else was a mystery. That got many fans excited for some big news like potentially an announcement about who would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after Joker. I felt like we didn’t get anything close to that in hype levels though. If you’re a Final Fantasy fan, you have plenty coming out thanks to the Direct, but if not, then even that was a little disappointing.

The last announcement from the Direct was pretty cool though. Nintendo is updating the classic handheld Zelda title, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. I had this game once upon a time and got about halfway through, I think, before trading it for a copy of Pokemon Silver in high school. There are times I regret that trade. Well, thanks to Nintendo, I’ll have a new chance at playing the game to completion and this time it looks adorable. The game is still 2D, but it has 3D art and overall it looks cute. The characters are more like chibi in my opinion, and they look a lot better than what we got in Windwaker.

Link’s Awakening was the one game I walked away from the Direct feeling excited about, and we don’t even have a release date outside of “2019.” What was your favorite part of the Direct?

Originally released for the Game Boy™ system more than 25 years ago, one of the most beloved games in the Legend of Zelda series returns. In this modern re-imagining, players once again return to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure.
