Nintendo's SUPER MARIO Movie Coming in 2022 with Creator Shigeru Miyamoto Set as Producer
Nintendo’s Super Mario animated movie is officially happening and it’s set to be released in 2022. It was also confirmed during Nintendo’s recent Corporate Management Policy Briefing that Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto is collaborating on the project and will serve as a producer.
According to Nintendo, “production is moving ahead smoothly” on the film. Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination, the animation studio who brought us Minions has been working closely with Miyamoto on the development.
As of right now, there are still no details on the plot or casting. We also have nothing to show you in terms of concept art. One thing we know for sure is that the creative team behind the film is looking to make a much better film than the classically bad 1993 live-action film, which starred Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo.
When the project was first announced Meledandri said, "I like that this was not done well the first time. I think that’s more exciting or more worthy than simply making another version of a film that was done incredibly well to begin with."
As much as I’ve enjoyed the Super Mario brand over the years, I don’t really have any expectations for the new movie. I hope that it turns out good and that it offers fans something unexpectedly awesome. But, ya never know with these kinds of films. They always tend to end up being mediocre, forgettable movies.
