No, Armie Hammer Is Not Up for the Role of Batman in Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN

Yesterday a big rumor started spreading across the internet that Armie Hammer was in “final talks” to take on the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in director Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman.

The rumor originated at Revenge of the Fans, and it has since been debunked by a few different sources. The rumor is not true:

Hammer himself even denied the rumor during an interview with Yahoo, saying:

“No one's ever asked. Let me say this. No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they are done – I think they are still working on a script. I don’t think that they are close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

While Armie Hammer as Batman would have been an interesting choice, it just wasn’t meant to be. He was actually previously cast as a Batman in George Miller's unmade Justice League: Mortal movie! That link is probably how the rumor was started in the first place.

Other actors who have been rumored for the role include Robert Pattinson, Kit Harington, Jack Huston, Jack O’Connell, and Noah Centineo. It will be interesting to see who ultimately ends up being cast in the role. It could be one of these actors, it could be someone completely different. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Reeves has said that the film will be filled with a Rogues Gallery of characters. He also said that this will be a Batman noir story and that it will focus on Batman in detective mode. It’s not hard for me to imagine Pattinson in a noir-style Batman detective film. If this casting ended up happening, you wouldn’t get any complaints from me.

Would you have liked to see Armie Hammer take on the role of Batman?

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25th, 2021.
