No, Kenneth Branagh Is Not Directing a Live-Action GARGOYLES Movie
Fake news website Giant Freakin’ Robot strikes again. Last week the clickbait movie news website reported that Kenneth Branagh is attached to direct a live-action Gargoyles movie for Disney. While I would love nothing more than for Disney to finally make a live-action Gargoyles movie, this news is not true.
I know people directly involved with the Gargoyles franchise, and after talking with them and reaching out to a few other sources, I can tell you that this is just another piece of made-up news from the outlet to get clicks. I have a huge problem with websites like these. As a site like ours tries to deliver honest, legit news and rumors from trusted sources and outlets, we’ve got sites like Giant Freakin’ Robot just making crap up and saying it’s legit.
A lot of people fall for it too! This news of Branagh directing Gargoyles is spreading like wildfire across the Internet! I get it, a lot of fans would love for news like this to be true. But don’t believe everything you read on the internet, especially from a site like Giant Freakin’ Robot. The “news” was then picked up by Belfast Telegraph, and everyone started reporting it as fact.
I could write up fake news all day for clicks if I wanted to, but I don’t because I actually want people to trust us! Yeah, we don’t get the crazy insane kind of traffic that fake news like this drums up, but at least we aren’t straight-up lying to people and wasting their time on fake movie news. We’re an honest group of movie geeks over here.
One of the last bits of real news we heard about the live-action Gargoyles movie was a few years ago when Jordan Peele told Disney he wanted to make the movie and pitched them an idea. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of that. I would have loved to see Peele take on Gargoyles.
I have no idea why Disney is dragging their feet on the live-action Gargoyles movie, they are remaking everything else, but the one live-action adaptation that fans actually want isn’t happening! It makes no sense to me!
Hopefully, one day there will be some real news to report on a Gargoyles movie! In the meantime, don’t go to websites that make up fake news.
Gargoyles centers around a species of nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles that turn to stone during the day, focusing on a clan led by Goliath. In the year 994, the clan lives in a castle in Scotland. Most are betrayed and killed by humans and the remainder are magically cursed to sleep—i.e., be frozen in stone form—until the castle "rises above the clouds." A millennium later, in 1994, billionaire David Xanatos purchases the gargoyles' castle and has it reconstructed atop his New York skyscraper, the Eyrie Building, thus awakening Goliath and the remainder of his clan. While trying to adjust to their new world, they are aided by a sympathetic female police officer, Elisa Maza, and quickly come into conflict with the plotting Xanatos. In addition to dealing with the gargoyles' attempts to adjust to modern New York City, the series also incorporated various supernatural threats to their safety and to the world at large.
