Noah Hawley's ALIEN Series Is Set a Few Years Before PROMETHEUS; Sandra Yi Sencindiver Joins Cast
Some new details have surfaced for Noah Hawley’s upcoming Alien series, including its place in the franchise timeline, and it also has a new cast member.
It’s been revealed that the series is set towards the end of the 21st Century, a few years before the events of 2012's Prometheus movie and 30 years before Ridley Scott's original 1979 film.
This is the first project in the franchise that will take place on Earth, and it will deal with the emergence of the story’s infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the race between corporations to create new android life.
Foundation actress Sandra Yi Sencindiver has also joined the cast as a senior member of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. She joins the previously cast Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Timothy Olyphant, and more.
The series will be blend “both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it’s going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats.“
Hawley previously talked about the project, saying: “It's about how we're trapped between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us.”
He added: “It's set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone's going to monopolize electricity. We just don't know which one it is."
He went on to share: “It’s a story that’s set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”
When talking about handling the story, Hawley explained that he’s taking a "quality, not quantity" approach, saying: "Obviously, they trust me after all these years, and the writing was on the page for the first year.”
He continued: “So, in success, you tell the story and tell the story until the story is done. They're very good at that at FX, of not wanting you to milk something that feels like it's over."
I’m excited and curious about this Alien series and the story that Hawley is going to tell. He’s a talented storyteller, and I have no doubt that he’s going to deliver a great series.
