Noah Hawley's STAR TREK Movie Put on Hold While Quentin Tarantino's is Still Being Developed

It looks like Paramount Pictures is still trying to figure out what it is that they want to do with the Star Trek film franchise. According to THR, the studio’s motion picture group president Emma Watts is in the process of re-assessing their slate of films, and Star Trek is now under the microscope.

The studio has had three different Star Trek projects in development. There is one being developed by Noah Hawley, another R-rated film coming from Quentin Tarantino, and a third one that would “reunite the cast” of J.J. Abrams’ reboot.

According to the report, Hawley’s project hasn’t made the cut and is being put on hold. It’s explained that one reason for that could be due to a plot, which centers around “a virus that wipes out vast parts of the known universe.” That concept just hits too close to home right now and they don’t want to tell that story for escapist entertainment.

However, the other two Star Trek film projects, including Tarantino’s is still in the works. When previously talking about inheriting Abrams’ Star Trek Kelvin Timeline, Tarantino explains that he’s just not having it:

"Now, I still don’t quite understand, and JJ [Abrams] can’t explain it to me, and my editor has tried to explain it to me and I still don’t get it... Something happened in the first movie that now kind of wiped the slate clean. I don’t buy that. I don’t like it. I don’t appreciate it. I don’t — fuck that... I want the whole series to have happened, it just hasn’t happened yet."

And that’s one of the many reasons why I would love to see Tarantino make a Star Trek movie!
