Norman Reedus Teases the Feel of His New WALKING DEAD Spin-Off Series, Titled DARYL DIXON
As we come to a close on AMC’s biggest series of all time, The Walking Dead, we are also moving full steam ahead on the subsequent set of spin-off series that are scheduled to roll out after it concludes. We’ve got the Maggie and Negan series in New York, the Rick and Michonne series on the East Coast, and the Daryl series, which we now know will simply be titled Daryl Dixon, taking place in Paris, France.
This will be a series in which Daryl (Norman Reedus) will have to “reinvent himself again, having to find himself again, and also, not being with – probably – the only people in the world he’s comfortable with,” Scott Gimple, head of the franchise, previously explained.
Reedus teased the feel of the new series, which is getting ready to shoot in France, in a recent appearance on The Talking Dead, AMC’s TWD after-show:
"We haven't started yet, but it's getting real right now. All the prep's happening, Greg's out there whipping everybody into shape right now. The sets are crazy. There are castles! It's a whole other level. The cinematography's gonna be insane, the tone, the feel, the sound is going to be different. It's going to be a different vibe."
Originally developed by Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang and TWDU chief content officer Scott M. Gimple as a Daryl & Carol spinoff, the reworked series instead focuses on Daryl as he wakes up on the European continent without knowing how he got there — or how he's getting home. Reedus' longtime co-star Melissa McBride, who has played Carol since the first season of The Walking Dead, dropped out of the series when production relocated from the United States to Europe, although Reedus and McBride have assured fans Daryl and Carol will reunite somewhere down the road.
It’s getting exciting to hear how this show is shaping up. I think it will be really cool to get a total change of scenery and brand new story direction in this world. Daryl Dixon is slated to premiere in 2023 on AMC and AMC+. Are you looking forward to this spinoff?
