NOSFERATU Director Robert Eggers' Next Film Project is WERWULF
Nosferatu director Robert Eggers is reteaming with Focus Features for a new horror film project titled Werwulf. Juging from the title, this is going to be a another werewolf movie.
Eggers also co-wrote with The Northman‘s Sjón and they will also be producers on the film, which is set to be released on Christmas Day 2026.
Eggers and Focus have partnered up on all his movies and Nosferatu is the studio’s second highest grossing movie domestically with $90.5M behind Downton Abbey. It’s also Eggers’ highest grossing movie to date.
As for Werwulf, the term originates from Old English and Germanic folklore, referring to a human who can transform into a wolf or a wolf-like creature.
Sources say the story is set in 13th century England. The script also features dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English.
While we’ve seen our far share of werewolf movies over the years, most recently with Universal and Blumhouse’s Wolf Man, I am curious to see what Egger’s take on the nightmarish folklore will be. I can’t help but think that it will be a period piece.
