NOSFERATU Remake Coming From THE WITCH Director Robert Eggers

The classic 1922 horror film Nosferatu will be getting the big Hollywood remake treatment. The project is set up by producer Jeff Robinov and his Studio 8 production company. They've hired Robert Eggers to write and direct the movie, which as most of you already know is based on the story of Dracula.

According to Deadline, this version of the story will be "a visceral adaptation of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film masterpiece that brings the horrific vampire of Eastern European folklore back to the screen."

The original film is based Bram Stoker's Dracula, and it follows a vampire named Count Orlok who "summons Thomas Hutter to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen. After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok's servant, Knock, prepares for his master to arrive at his new home."

Nosferatu is such a terrifying and nightmarish movie. The fact that it's a black and white silent film shot in the '20s really adds to the creepy effectiveness of it. As much as I'm not too thrilled about remakes, I believe that Nosferatu is in great hands with Eggers at the helm.

Eggers directed a film called The Witch, which was my favorite film from Sundance earlier this year. I was blown away by the writing, directing, acting, tone, and visuals. This guy is an incredible filmmaker, and the fact that he's decided to take on Nosferatu is kind of exciting because I really want to see what he does with it. You can read my review of The Witch here.

I normally wouldn't be so excited about a remake, but if you saw The Witch, then there's a good chance you'd be excited too. If you haven't, just wait until you do. I think Eggers has the ability to do something absolutely frightening with Nosfuratu. If you feel the need to complain, or disagree with me, I completely understand. The filmmaker just impressed the hell out of me!
