Nurse Ratched From ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is Getting a Origin Series From Ryan Murphy
American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is developing another great sounding new series called Ratched. The amazing-sounding series is set up at Netflix and it will center around the diabolical Nurse Ratched from the classic 1975 Jack Nicholson film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The reason I'm so excited about this is because she is one of my favorite film antagonists of all time. She's such a great character that you love to hate.
Nurse Ratched a.k.a. Nurse Ratshit will be played by Sarah Paulson, which is such perfect casting! She is going to be freakin' awesome in the role! The original character was masterfully played by Louise Fletcher. who won the Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of the villain.
The series will consist of 18 episodes and it scheduled to start shooting in 2018. Deadline offer the following story details:
Ratched is an origins story, beginning in 1947, which will follow Ratched’s (Paulson) journey and evolution from nurse to full-fledged monster. The series will track her murderous progression through the mental health care system.
Damn... this is gonna be good. The series was created by Evan Romansky, who is apparently fresh out of film school. He wrote a spec script and managed to get to Murphy, who obviously loved it. What a great gig to get right out of college!
Michael Douglas, who was a producer on the original film will be back to executive produce this project alongside Murphy.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was based on the Ken Kesey’s novel and it also won Academy Award's for Best Picture, Best Director (Milos Forman), Best Actor (Jack Nicholson) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman).
I'm so excited about this and I can't wait to see how it turns out! If you haven't seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest stop what you're doing and watch it now!
