Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie in the Works at Lucasfilm; Stephen Daldry in Talks to Direct!
It looks like Obi-Wan is finally be getting his very own movie and writer/director Stephen Daldry is in early talks to direct the Star Wars standalone movie.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in the earliest of stages of talks and that the project still has no script. If the deal goes down Daldry would oversee the development of the film with Lucasfilm.
I know what EVERYONE is thinking, but sadly, it's not known at this stage if Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as the Jedi Master.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone is one of many projects being developed by Lucasfilm and Disney that fall outside the Skywalker saga. A Han Solo movie is now in production under new director Ron Howard and Lucasfilm is also considering movies featuring Yoda and Boba Fett.
In the original Star Wars trilogy, Alec Guinness played Kenobi, earning him an Oscar nomination to boot. Then McGregor took on the role in George Lucas' prequel trilogy. McGregor has gone on record several times saying he would be open to playing the character again. Sources tell THR that since there is no script, no actor is attached.
Daldry made his feature debut with Billy Elliot, which earned him his first directing Oscar nomination. He followed that up with The Hours and The Reader, which also grabbed him directing nominations.
At long last we have some movement on an Obi-Wan movie! I am personally stoked that they are considering such a brilliant filmmaker to helm the project, what do you guys think?
