OBI-WAN KENOBI Series Finds the Jedi Master at a "Traumatic Moment" in His Life
While we anxiously wait for Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series to premiere on Disney+, producer Michelle Rejwan recently offered some additional insight on the story and the state that the Jedi Master is in.
The story is set 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
While speaking with SFX Magazine, Rejwan explained that Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan is quite lost. "[We find him in] a pretty traumatic moment, where he’s lost so much, where he’s been hiding, where his apprentice and brother, Anakin, has gone to the Dark Side, and he’s been living with that for a decade. We’re really finding him in a place where he’s quite lost, and Ewan was a major part of that conversation."
The producer goes on to say that Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader, was "always part of this story" and said, "Because he and Anakin Skywalker are such important characters to Obi-Wan, in the shadow of the events of Revenge Of The Sith. He’s living with how things were left with Anakin on Mustafar, leaving him to die in an incredibly tragic way, because he had no choice. He’s been living with quite a bit of guilt and reflection over this period."
It’ll be interesting to see how this aspect of Obi-Wan is explored over the course of the series. The show also stars Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and Joby Harold.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will drop on Disney+ on May 25th!
