Of Course Disney Wants to Make a Live-Action THE LITTLE MERMAID Film
Disney has had a lot of success with their live-action adaptations of their classic animated films. A couple of days ago, they released a teaser trailer for their upcoming Beauty and the Beast movie, which exploded online. It was watched over 92 million times in its first 24 hours. That beat the record of the second teaser trailer that was released for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which got 88 million views.
There's obviously a lot of excitement for Beauty and the Beast. Now Disney is looking to capitalize on that excitement and according to Deadline, the studio is in the early stages of developing a live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The studio hasn't officially greenlit the project, but they are having discussions with major producers who have strong ties with the studio.
I honestly don't know why Disney wouldn't move forward with the project. It's pretty much guaranteed to make them insane amounts of money, especially if it actually turns out to be a good movie. With great recent films like The Jungle Book and Cinderella, it seems like Disney knows how to handle these projects, make solid films, and most importantly make the fans happy.
I can't really roll my eyes at the fact that Disney wants to make a new Little Mermaid film because chances are, if they make it, it will probably turn out to be a great film. Keep in mind, this is different from Universal's adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which has Chloe Grace Moretz lined up to star.
