Official Photos of Dwayne Johnson as HERCULES

The first trailer for Dwayne Johnson's Hercules is scheduled to hit this Tuesday, but while we wait here are a few official photos from the film, a couple of which give us our first real look at Johnson in the title role. I'm not a big fan of the armor that he's wearing in the photo above as it actually makes him look smaller than he should be. Especially when you compare it the the last picture below. When talking about the film the actor said that he was "born" for the role,

"It's when Hercules breaks through the chains and becomes the demi-god he was born to be, I was actually yelling with all the power I could muster, 'I am Hercules!' I gave it my all and made myself pass out every time we did it. But I honestly felt in that moment that I was born to play this role."

He went on to talk about how he prepared for the role on his Facebook page,

"I trained and worked harder than ever for 8 months for this role. Lived alone and locked myself away (like a moody 260lb monk) for 6 months while filming. Goal was to completely transform into this character. Disappear into the role.

"Press journalist asked me today, with the mental and physical toll the role had on me, would I do it again? Not only would I do it again… but I'd do it f*cking twice."

It sounds like he has given the part every ounce of energy he had. I hoper it pays off for him. I'm still worried about the film because it was directed by Brett Ratner. Here's the synopsis.

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend… Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

The movie comes out on July 25th!
