TRANSFORMERS Producer Says BUMBLEBEE Sequel Will Have "A Little More Bayhem"
We finally get a a great Transformers movie with Bumblebee thanks to director Travis Knight, and now the producers of the Transformers franchise want to digress and, in a way, go back to what Michael Bay was doing.
Over the weekend it was confirmed that Paramount Pictures was developing a sequel to The Last Knight for some reason, and that the Bumblebee sequel would include Optimus Prime in the story.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has now revealed some of their plans for the Bumblebee sequel. He says that they are looking to add “a little more Bayhem”, which are words that I hoped to never hear again regarding a Transformers movie. While talking to Collider, he said:
"I know the next Transformer our attempt anyway, is to sort of do a fusion of Bumblebee and the Bay movies. A little more Bayhem. And a little bit more of the character falling in love within the emotional dynamic of the movie."
He goes on to explain that they do want to try and humanize the characters more:
"One of the things I want to do—and I hope we pull it off—is, we did it with Bumblebee because he’s so cute and he’s so accessible, but he can’t talk. I think the more human we can make these characters, the more people are going to like them."
I’m happy to hear that they want to focus on the character dynamics and emotion of the film, but I can easily see that getting lost as they try to add more “Bayhem” to the movie. I thought Bumblebee was a perfect mix of character development, great storytelling, and action. It really didn’t need more action! In my opinion, that was the perfect Transformers movie.
Who knows, though. Maybe they can pull it off and give us another great Transformers movie, even with the infusion of more Bayhem. I hope they can pull it off! I’d hate to see them go back to making mediocre films after creating something so great with Bumblebee.
