OLDBOY Director Park Chan-wook Set To Helm DECISION TO LEAVE

Park Chan-wook, the director behind Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Thirst, Stoker, and The Handmaiden, is gearing up to shoot his next film project. The film is another Korean-language drama titled Decision to Leave.

I’m a big fan of Chan-wook’s film work, style, and the stories that he tells and this next one involves “a diligent and serious detective (Park Hye-il) who is investigating a possible murder case in the mountainous countryside. He begins to suspect the man’s widow (Tang Wei), whom he also develops romantic feelings for.”

I’ve enjoyed all of Chan-wook’s film work and I’m curious to see how he ends up bringing this story to life. It seems like a film noir kind of story, which is the perfect story material for the filmmaker to work with.

The script was co-written by Park and frequent collaborator Jeong Seo-kyeong. They previously co-scripted Park’s 2006 film I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK, the 2009 horror adaptation Thirst and the 2016 erotic thriller The Handmaiden.

Park’s latest project was the six-episode drama series Little Drummer Girl, which aired on AMC/BBC in 2018.
