Original Ending Shot For THE ACOLYTE Saw The Sith Villain and Osha Kiss
The first season of the Star Wars series The Acolyte has come to an end and Manny Jacinto‘s Sith Lord known as the Stranger aka Qimir, has teamed up with Amandla Stenberg’s Osha who has turned to the dark side.
The season finale saw Osha force-choke Jedi Master Sol to death after she found out that he killed her mother years ago. There was so much rage and anger, and Osha just let the dark side of the force take control of her.
Well, it turns out that these two characters almost crossed the line of silliness to kiss at the end of the series. A scene of them kissing was actually shot, but ultimately the creative team didn’t think it felt right and cut it.
During a recent interview with Vulture, Jacinto revealed: “I’m just going to put it out there. There was a version that we filmed where Osha and the Stranger actually kiss. But we felt that it may have not been too earned at that moment. I think it was just too early on.”
He explained: “The Stranger killed a bunch of her friends, and she just killed her fatherlike figure [Sol]. For them to have this sensual moment just didn’t feel like it was appropriate.
“It’s just on the cutting-room floor. But I suggested, ‘Maybe not the kiss, but how about a hand-hold?’ Some sort of wanting to console, some sort of physicality that expresses that he cares for her and feels for her and that they’re in this together now.
“That’s something that, if we do a Season 2, maybe we can work toward, if the fans want it.”
While a lot of Star Wars fans have issues with the series, the kiss would’ve just thrown more fuel on the fire. I’m sure you remember there was a lot of backlash when Rey and Kylo Ren kissed at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. That was quite the eye-roll moment as it didn’t make any sense to the characters or story.
Regardless of the fan backlash, Daisy Ridley previously said, “I felt like we all…it felt earned. What was interesting again is intentionality. My feeling in that moment was that it was a goodbye, and that felt earned.
“You can call a kiss a thousand things, but I felt it was a goodbye. That whole scene felt emotional and I felt I was saying goodbye to the job, too.”
Director J.J. Abrams also talked about the kiss, saying: “There is as much of a brother-sister thing between Rey and Kylo Ren as there is a romantic thing. So it’s not like literally a sexual, romantic thing, but it’s more like they’re bound together in this movie in a crazy, spiritual way that, again, felt romantic to me.”
Some fans still don’t buy into it. Ever since Luke Skywalker kissed his sister, Star Wars fans have had issues with kissing in Star Wars.
