Oscar Isaac Says Fans Will Be Surprised by Poe's Backstory in THE RISE OF SKYWALKER and Keri Russell Shares Her Excitement
In a recent red-carpet interview with stars of the upcoming final film in the saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, ET Canada caught up with Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe Dameron, and newcomer to the franchise, Keri Russell (The Americans). While chatting about the upcoming film, Isaac, who was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, said of his character:
“Particularly with Poe, I think people will be surprised to see that he has a bit more of an ambiguous past. He’s not just kind of that squeaky-clean flyboy.”
While people have been pretty focused on the past of Rey (Daisy Ridley), we still know very little about the origins of her friends Poe and Finn, so it’s cool to know we will be getting more information in the final film. While Russell had less to say about the character she’s playing, Zorii Bliss, she did talk about her excitement for playing the part, as it is accommodating to her anxiety. Here’s what she had to say:
“I’m a nervous, shy person. That’s always a challenge for me.”
To which Isaac quipped:
“Which is why she chose to be an actress.”
And Russell laughed and responded:
“Which is why my character wearing the helmet is perfect for me. That’s wear I live. Like, that’s my ideal job. I can see everybody. No one can see me.”
That’s a pretty specific role that appeases that request, so I am glad she found the part. But she’s a pretty amazing actress, even without a helmet. I’m so excited for this film and for all the little bits of info we are getting leading up to it! Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker flies into theaters on December 20th. What do you think we will find out about Poe Dameron?
