Oscar Isaac Teases Guerrilla Warfare in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX and How it's a Movie About Warriors
While we don't really know what to expect from J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX in terms of the direction that the story will go, Oscar Isaac offered some insight into the state that the Resistance could be in. He also likens aspects of the film to the Revolutionary War and explains how the film is about warriors.
"(They) are guerrilla fighters, adhering closer to something like the Revolutionary War fighters or even the guerrillas in Cuba with Che and Fidel and all these guys living in the mountains, coming down to do some attacks, and going back and trying to hide from the ’empire’ of the United States. It’s that kind of ragged at this point.
"You hear about stories with (George) Washington as a general, where lots of people died based on their orders, but that is part of leadership and that push-and-pull in the fight for figuring out what’s the way to move forward. It is a war movie. I mean, above and beyond, it is a movie about warriors."
With Episode IX being the final film in the Skywalker saga, I think it's safe to assume that the movie is going to feature some heavy, gritty, and intense action sequences. After all, this could very well be the final showdown between good and evil in this saga.
I like Isaac's explanation of how the Resistance will be operating in the story and it's going to be interesting to see how exactly that's going to be portrayed in the movie.
The movie also Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher. Dominic Monaghan and Matt Smith were also recently cast in the movie.
The movie is shooting at London’s Pinewood Studios, and it's scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
